The Morris Museum of Art exists for the purpose of collecting and exhibiting the art of the American South and interpreting it in regional, national, and global contexts. It is dedicated to encouraging artistic inquiry, providing a rich visitor experience, and exercising civic responsibility. Its aim is the enrichment of the public and the betterment of Augusta.
Programs or services
The Morris Museum of Art is committed to and deeply invested in the betterment of this community. Since the early 1990s, the museum’s award-winning Education Department has been providing art education services to local school districts, serving thousands of students from more than twenty Georgia and South Carolina counties. The museum also produces a wide range of public programs, including lectures, storytelling events, film screenings, concerts, and workshops for children and adults. The museum’s outreach efforts—including (but certainly not limited to) panel exhibitions, in-school presentations, programs at public libraries, the Children’s Hospital of Georgia, community centers, the Georgia War Veterans Nursing Home, Hope House, Via Cognitive Health, Christ Community Health, and Turn Back the Block. Among the many popular public programs presented at the museum are “Music at the Morris”, a monthly concert series; “ArtNow,” a contemporary artists’ lecture series; “Films on Friday,” a classic film series; “Art at Lunch,” a monthly lunch-and-lecture program; “Artrageous Free Family Sundays,” the museum’s most popular family program; “Connections,” a palliative and remediative arts program for Alzheimer’s patients and their caregivers (produced in cooperation with the Alzheimer’s Association), and ”Discovery,” a program for people with special needs. Such programs are central to the achievement of the Morris’s goals as an educational institution. They attract diverse groups to the museum and often serve as a springboard to awaken or reawaken interest in the arts and the culture of the South. n life with a program designed for preschoolers, “Create with Me,” a program designed for preschoolers, which introduces art to children between the ages of 18 months and 5 years.

Target Audience
The target population served by the Morris Museum of Art is the CSRA and surrounding counties. Being mostly rural, residents in these counties have little opportunity to experience art and how it truly relates to their world and enriches all lives. Through programs devised to be accessible to people of all ages, abilities, mental capacity, and socio-economic backgrounds, the Morris Museum of Art delivers the arts to members of the community who need it most.
